We started this “giving back” event in 2015. Last year, we got so busy in December, sadly we were not able to organize it. This year, we are starting early so we can continue our “giving back to the community” effort.

This year, again, has been an amazing year so far. We had returning clients with their 2nd baby more than ever. We have photographed more than 200 precious newborn babies already. More babies for 100 days, 6 months, and 1 year… more expecting moms… It seems that the abundance of love and joy created at our studio is more than we expected. So thankful!

This event is all about celebrating all the good things that happened in 2017 by giving back to the community.

12 days to Christmas - it is time to give back

We would love to share this year’s holiday season by giving away a magical photo session to 12 families. This is how it works.

We are looking for 12 families with kid(s). The family must have a baby younger than 4 years old and reside in the Greater Vancouver area. We would love to offer this Christmas gift to families who have a special story that will touch our hearts. Please nominate a family you think this gift will mean a lot to.

What do you need to do to nominate a family?

  • Write an email to us (rachel@rachelyoonphotography.com) with the subject line ’12 days to Christmas’.
  • Write the story about the family and why this gift will mean so much to them.
  • We need to know a family member’s full name, email address, and phone number.
  • The deadline is November 30th.

What happens after you nominate a family?

  • We will carefully select 12 families who we feel this gift will mean the most to and contact them individually.
  • In December, we will photograph one family per day for 12 days until December 24th.
  • The family will receive a 20 minute family session at our beautiful boutique baby studio and 4 edited digital images plus one 8×10 print of their choice.

Please take 5 minutes to nominate a family who deserves a very special Christmas gift. This gift might be one of the most memorable Christmas gifts they will ever receive.

Help one family have a magical Christmas this year!

We specialize in newborn photography and serve in Greater Vancouver. We have three different newborn packages and when you have older kids, you can do sibling add ons to any of the newborn packages we offer. Here is an example of Newborn Essence with Siblings package.

We ask clients to bring props that are very personal. Common props might be blankets knitted by a family member (often grandma), stuffed animal, watch, rings, etc. This client brought two blankets and both were beautiful to use.

We chose a lying down basket for this little princess and used the first blanket. Purple was one of the colours the client chose and our creativity incorporates our clients’ likes and preferences.

Before bringing the siblings in the scene, we photograph the baby alone first. Then we will photograph the baby with the siblings.  sibling photo - newborn photography vancouver

When siblings are old enough to safely hold the baby, we like them sitting together like the image below. When the sibling(s) are not quite old enough (under 4), the second setup for the sibling photos will be done with a basket setup. We love to capture the happy siblings with the new arrival in the family. 🙂

The last setup for this princess was on the beanbag. We used the second blanket, which was perfect to tuck the baby in. The client brought the matching headband. We have lots of headbands but also love to use what our clients bring. The only headbands that we prefer not to use are big flower headbands. We find those are way too big on the tiny baby face and take the focus away from the baby. All our headbands and tiebacks are dainty and elegantly cute. baby girl tucked in the blanket - newborn photography vancouverWe also did our go-to-poses – side pose and bum up pose. She was just an angel.

This is an example session and each session is different. We’ve had clients who didn’t want basket setups and did all three setups on the beanbag. We discuss with clients at the beginning of the session to find out which setups they like for their baby.

We welcome grandparents to the session. There is an additional fee if you’d like to include grandparents in the session. If you have older kids, you can simply add on siblings to any newborn package you choose at $50 additional fee. Check out an example of Newborn Essence with Siblings.

Newborn Photography Vancouver

Rachel Yoon is a Vancouver newborn photographer who fell in love with newborn photography once she became a mom. Photographing newborns is the first step in documenting the baby’s first year. Learn more about documenting your baby’s first year. Are you looking for a newborn photographer in Vancouver? Contact Rachel Yoon to find out about her newborn photography service.

We get questions from our clients about setups for different newborn packages. Here is a good example of Newborn Essence package. This client booked My Baby’s 1st Year package and the newborn portion is Newborn Essence.

We usually start with wrapping poses as babies feel secured and sleep well when wrapped. With wraps, we have different colour fur fabrics we use. As you can see, we do a couple of different looks with the first setup and images in different angles. If we get smiles from the baby, that is, for sure, a keepsake.

With the second setup, we usually do a basket setup. Depending on the client’s preference, we do either facing forward basket or lying on the back basket. With this session, we did a facing forward basket. We typically use a few different bonnets, headbands, or hats. Babies tend to sleep well in a facing forward basket so if the baby is close to 2 weeks old and wake up easily, the facing forward basket is a better setup than lying in the basket. We always have a spotter next to the baby for the baby’s safety. Even when they seem sound sleeping in the basket, they could startle and move their head any second. Baby’s safety is the most important thing we keep in mind when we photograph newborns. newborn baby girl with a crown - newborn photography vancouver newborn baby girl close up with a crown - newborn photography vancouver newborn baby girl in basket - decorated with flowers newborn baby girl close up - newborn photography vancouver newborn baby girl with a lamb - newborn photography vancouver

The third setup is a smooth fabric beanbag setup. Here we do naked baby poses – side pose, bum up pose, taco pose, or froggy pose depending on what seems the most natural for each baby, we do a couple of different poses. For this baby girl, we did the side pose and taco pose. With each pose, we do naked images and some covered with wraps.  newborn baby girl side pose with a wrap - newborn photography vancouver newborn baby girl taco pose - newborn photography vancouver newborn baby wrapped in purple in taco pose newborn baby girl in taco pose close up - newborn photography vancouver

Newborn Essence package includes photos with mom and dad. Depending on the client’s preference, we will either have the baby naked or wrapped. When the baby is naked, there is a chance for an accident. Babies tend to have an accident when naked. 🙂 We ask our clients to bring extra top if they want the baby to be naked. We capture the intimate connection between the baby and parents and also portraits; looking at the camera as well.

Rachel Yoon is a Vancouver newborn photographer who fell in love with newborn photography once she became a mom. Photographing newborns is the first step in documenting the baby’s first year. We are specializing in Newborn Photography, Maternity Photography, and Baby Photography. Over recent years, we seem to get more and more interest for our 100 days photo session, which is one of our Baby Photography packages.

As we get questions about 100 days sessions, we put a post to show a sample session.

Once you arrive at our cosy bright studio, we go though the outfits first – the outfits you bring and the outfits we have – to plan out which outfits to use.

Then we start with photos with mom and dad. Some babies need some time to get used to and feel comfortable with the new place and new people. We want to set the mood right. While they stay with mom and dad, they can explore the new environment and the photographer.

100 days old baby with mom and dad 100 days old baby with mom and dad - Baby Photography VancouverOnce we finish the photos with the parents, we will help the baby to sit up supported on the couch. This can be easily done if your baby can hold up her/his head well. The three lambs are our favourite props and we also have a couple of little piggies for your baby to hug. If you have older kid(s), here we capture the precious sibling moments as well.  100 days old baby girl on a couch - Baby Photography VancouverThe next set is lying on a beanbag. We have various colour fur fabrics. This is the setup where we capture lots of smiles from your baby. For baby girls, we use headbands and bonnets. For baby boys, we use bonnets and hats.  100 days old baby smiling 100 days old baby close up - Baby Photography Vancouver 100 days old baby girl smiling - Baby Photography Vancouver

One of the big milestones in the first year is doing the tummy time, which babies master around 3~4 months. It is important to schedule your baby’s 100 days session when your baby can do the tummy time. We use diaper cover, shorts, or outfits to cover the diaper and use various headbands, bonnets, or hats.

Yes, 100 days old babies are still small enough to fit in our large sized baskets. Here you can see how tiny your baby is still. 100 days old baby smiling in a basket - Baby Photography Vancouver 100 days old baby in a basket - Baby Photography Vancouver 100 days old baby girl smiling - Baby Photography Vancouver

We don’t do newborn poses or completely naked poses at this stage as they are not suitable. You can expect lots of smiles (most of the babies) and exciting milestones to be captured at your baby’s 100 days session.

The 100 days session is 45 minutes to 1 hour long. We try to move as quick as possible as the stimulation the baby gets during the session is a lot and most babies start to get tired or sleepy in half an hour to 45 minutes. If your baby needs a quick feeding during the session, we will take a break for feeding. If your baby needs to nap, we let your baby nap and can capture your baby sleeping. The sessions don’t always go the same as we work with what works for your baby.

If you want to capture your baby’s 100 days, contact us for the details. We also offer Baby Essence Bundle for $50 saving.
